Sail cruising – our summer cruise
Normandy and the Channel Isles in Quartette

St Valery en Caux marina
Our summer cruise is a two part exploration of other sailing areas during our summer sailing holidays and destinations include the beautiful ports of Honfleur which has a locked entrance and Fecamp, which is high water access. As you hop along the coast you might also visit le Havre or Dieppe or St Valery en Caux pictured above.
We start with a channel crossing to Normandy and our hand-over will be in the marina at Ouistreham which is near the ancient town of Caen. Then we have three weeks cruising based there followed by one week’s crew takes Quartette from Normandy to the Channel isles, in particular St Peter Port Guernsey.
The following three weeks are in the Channel isles and then crossing the English channel back to Gosport.

The West Country part of the cruise is designed to allow a trip to the Isles of Scilly should the weather prove favourable. But several other lovely harbours are there to be explored too as many of us found in summer 2021, such as Helford, Fowey (pictured above) and Salcombe.
Yacht Racing
This year we will enter the Junior Offshore Group (JOG) and RORC races.
These races provide a great experience, both for keen racers and those who have never raced before. Many of the races are actually two races over a weekend, with a night in harbour in between, so this allows us to enter (if necessary) with smaller crews and no need for overnight watches. There is also the Round the Island which is sure to book up quickly.
For those who have not raced before, PYC takes a relaxed approach to racing, with opportunities to take part in foredeck, cockpit, and helming. We tailor our approach to racing to suit the needs of the individual crew member so if you are thinking of giving it a go then now is a good time to step forward. It is a great way to learn new skills, or strengthen old ones, that you can apply to the rest of your sailing career. Also we will be running some training weekends and you are encouraged to attend these before going on your first race.
